Growing2gether wins grant from SSEN to transform the lives of young people

We are delighted to announce that Growing2gether has received generous funding of over £55,000 from SSEN Transmission’s Regional Community Benefit Fund.

This funding will help us transform the lives of young teens living in deprived Highland areas of Alness, Tain and Inverness Merkinch. Working in partnership, we will provide a holistic programme of volunteering opportunities, empowering young people facing disadvantage to mentor a child in a nursery and to create youth-led community projects.

“We will build their mental health, life skills and engagement, developing community ambassadors who can give back not only to their communities, but to other communities and young people across the north of Scotland.” Gavin Morgan, Co-CEO, Growing2gether.

With this funding, Growing2gether will deliver six Growing2gether Nursery projects, reaching 48 young people mentoring 48 children. The young people will also have the opportunity to create and deliver six youth-led Growing2gether Youth Social Action projects to improve their communities. Through partnerships, we will also coach them to connect to other opportunities to develop their mental health and skills.

“What is important about Growing2gether is ‘empowerment’: how you empower young people with life skills that they don’t get elsewhere. Young people want to be more in control of their lives”.  Alfie, 16.
